See The Front Page of News Papers Around The World
This is just for fun, but sometimes we just need a bit of fun. A friend send me this link and I thought I would pass it along. If you click on this link, it will take you to a web site that opens to a map of the U.S. with tabbed links to other parts of the world.

The map has orange dots scattered across it. Each dot represents a major newspaper from the area. Click on the dot and the front page of the local newspaper will open. You only get the front page.

I believe you may need flash loaded on your computer for this to work. If you try the site and it doesn't work, that will probably be the reason. If you have that problem, do a search for Mac OS X and flash and see if you can download it.

Reset Safari
Last time I tried to make an entry into this blog my Safari was acting wonky. That's a technical term for it was acting up and I didn't know why. I would enter the information, hit the publish button, and everything would disappear. I asked my favorite expert and she asked me how long it had been since I had reset Safari.

Obviously it had been too long. I have been doing lots of research and the cache files were really full. As soon as I did the simple reset. everything started working again just fine. When you do a reset you get rid of all the accumulated cache files and other stuff that can slow your browser down.

With Safari open, select Safari > Reset Safari. You get this window.

It is really important that you uncheck the boxes next to things that you don't want cleaned out, such as your saved names and passwords, and other AutoFill form text. Once you have the boxes set to your satisfaction, you can hit the reset button. That's all there is to it.

It's like getting the oil changed in your car.

How To Send A URL To Someone Quickly
Suppose You find a really cool web site like this one, which features around 30,000 free textured backgrounds, and you want to share it with your friends.

While still in the the web page, press Command-Shift-I. This opens your default email client and inserts the Web address into the body of the email message. Now all you have to do is add any addition text to the message and enter the email address of the recipient and the subject line.

It's ready to send.

More Products from Macworld 2009
iMuffs

Wi-Gear has a new product on the market called iMuffs. It answers a need that more than one person has wished for. It offers wireless headphones for your iPhone, iPod, and other Bluetooth phones. It also has controls built in that let you pause, change volume, skip tracks, and seek music right from the headphones.

When an incoming call comes in, the phone will connect and ring through the headphones, allowing you to talk through the integrated microphone and when the call ends the headphones will switch back to music. It charges through a USB port or with a travel charger that is included. The MSR is U.S. $149.

Haptique MacBook Case

I noted in an earlier session that there were dozens of booths that features cases for iPods. The same held true for laptops. One of the more noteworthy was the Uniea booth. One of their featured products was the Haptique hard shell case for the MacBook Aluminum. It fits like a glove, is made from hard plastic, yet feels like suede on the outside and the interior is soft to protect the surface of your Mac. It comes in black, white, pink, blue, green, and orange. The MSR is U.S. $49. This is a very nice product.

My Thoughts On The Future of Macworld and More Product Reviews
I will add my two cents worth to the discussion about the future of Macworld.
I think it should continue. I hope it will continue. I think it can be perfectly valuable without the presence of Apple as long as the rest of the participants continue to come.

At first reading that might sound a bit trite, but personally I never visit the Apple booth at the show. I can see all that stuff when I get back home. I want to see all the new stuff that I can't see anywhere else. I want to meet the people who write the books I read, talk to the people who develope the software I use, and make contacts that will help me in the future.

As Paul Kent, a Vice President with IDG, the company that actually puts on the event pointed out, 90% of what we see in the trade show is not available in the Apple stores. And that doesn't cover all the training that takes place, some of it free from the vendors themselves.

You can register right now for right now for the Macworld 2010 tradeshow for free. Obviously, this is an effort on behalf of IDG to assure vendors that plenty of people will be attending next year's show, which will be held January 4-8, 2010 in San Francisco.

SENA Cases

Lots of companies make "i" cases. If you have an "i" product you know that. I didn't count the number of booths selling or showing cases, but it was more than two dozen. A couple stood out of course.

Last year I mentioned SENA cases in a column and I am doing so again. They stand out on a couple of levels. They are made of real leather and offer hand made designs and craftsmanship. When I say hand made, I mean that literally. A craftsman hand-stitched a case for me, in a leather of my choice, while I waited. This feature will shortly be available on their website along with their other products. If you want a case that says style and class you should check out their stuff.

Theft Protection

Orbicule, a new company from Belgium, introduced a product at Macworld that promises to help recover your Mac if it is stolen. Unlike other theft protection software, this is Mac specific.

The company promises to track your Mac, transmit screenshots of locations, and take screenshots of users. If initial recovery efforts fail, the software can simulate a hardware failure. When the Mac goes in for repair it will be found that way. MSR is U.S. $49.00 for a single user license, $59.00 for a household of 5 licenses, or $249.00 for a site license. Educational discounts are available.
