( 2.7 / 31 )The built-in preview bar in Mail allows you to preview the content of your email without actually opening it. It allows you to quickly junk unwanted mail and avoid opening anything that might contain a virus. This is really important for the security of your Mac.
The preview bar looks like this:
You can easily move it up and down by placing your cursor over it and holding down the mouse button while you move it up or down. Until you actually click on, and open a message, nothing in it can harm your Mac. You can, however, drag attachments to your desktop while in preview mode if you choose to.
Personally, I never open an email unless I have previewed it first. I don't actually bother opening messages unless I need to answer them. Preview saves a lot of time for me.

( 2.9 / 29 )It was bound to happen. We can create smart groups in iTunes and iPhoto. Now we can do it in Address Book as well. The advantage, of course, is creating smart groups allows us to create email groups and add to them automatically.
In Address Book, select File > New Smart Group. Set the conditions in the same manner as for smart group designations in other Apple applications, for instance put a common identifier in the Note section of certain cards. A number of designations are built in. If you are using your Address Book for work you can create a Smart Group for everyone who works for a specific company.

( 2.9 / 60 )In both Leopard and Snow Leopard you will get a warning when you download an application from the Internet. The warning asks if you are sure you want to open it. This warning system allows you to make sure no malware sneaks past you unawares to self install on your Mac. The warning window contains a large yellow triangle with an exclamation point symbol in the middle.
Starting with Snow Leopard there is a second level of defense built in. This warning contains a red stop-sign shaped icon with an exclamation point symbol in the middle and warns you that if you install the downloaded software it will damage your computer. You are instructed to move the item to the trash. The malware is identified by definitions contained within the library core of your Mac and Apple updates that information as necessary.
